Playa Vista is a congenial, new development of family friendly homes in a town bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west, Venice and Santa Monica to the north and Manhattan and Redondo Beach to the south.
Living options come in styles for every taste. There are beachy brownstone flats, communities of modern luxury buildings, with some complexes featuring their own private clubs, such as the Centerpointe Club. The homes are family and pet friendly and built to blend in with the beautiful surroundings that nature offers this close to the beach.
Family Fun
Playa Vista’s close knit community combines the fun of an ocean community with a whole lot more. The abundance of parks – seven – offer kid friendly and safe environments, with sports options for parents, too. There are putting greens, basketball courts, running tracks and hiking trails. There are baseball fields and soccer, too.
The unique outdoor feature of the area is the Playa Vista wetlands, a wonderful place to explore with children or with your own binoculars. Fifty-one acres of freshwater wetlands are ripe with wild life and bird life. It’s an Exploratorium at your front door.
Students at Playa Vista Elementary School are excelling in Stem studies. The state-of-the-art facility serves its 300 students in partnership with nearby Loyola Marymount University and the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Farm Markets
The Playa Vista Farmers’ Market is every Saturday morning, and there’s also a Wednesday evening market in summer months. Both offer a selection of farm fresh foods and some excellent cooked and prepared meals for take-away eating. The markets are dog friendly. You can bring your dog, and he can play with other buddies in a special pen while you fill your bags with edibles for the week. It’s a social experience for both of you. The market offers special events tied to the calendar, such as a fall harvest festival in October. It’s a great place to stop in on a Wednesday evening to pick up beautifully prepared dinner to take home and get you over the mid-week hump.
Shopping and Dinner
Shopping options in Playa Vista include some of your favorite chains, along with unique boutiques. The brand new Runway complex offers shopping, dining and living facilities. There are shops around Concert Park and around Fountain Park.
During the summer months, pack a picnic and join your friends at Concert Park for a free film under the stars. Films and concerts in the park are all part of the fun. Or take the free shuttle to the beach.
Playa Vista features some unique restaurants and some of Southern California’s popular chains, too. You can pick up a great meal at Piknic, a favorite with the locals, or the Big Mango Café. For high end dining try Paul Martin’s American Grill or the Tin Roof Bistro. If you want to take in a movie after dinner, there is a theater at the Runway development.
